Where Are You Going with You Blessing?

Luke records that Jesus pronounced healing upon ten lepers with instructions that they go and show themselves to the priest (according to Old Testament ritual).  All  ten went away…but one later returned to Jesus, thanking him for his healing.  The  key to this sermon….and for our lives of faith…is found in the question Jesus asks the healed man upon his return. Regarding the other nine, Jesus does not ask,  “Why are they not thankful?”.   Instead, he asks,  “Where are they?”  Only one healed leper takes his blessing and lays it at the feet of Jesus.  Hopefully, this will prompt us to ask “where are we going with our blessings?”

What Can We Learn from a Thief?

Dying beside Jesus on the cross, the penitent thief is pardoned and forgiven.  Without any life filled with good works,  without  any  ‘proof’ of goodness or worthiness, the thief find forgiveness in Christ.  If God could dare love and forgive him,  how much He love and forgive us?  What does that say about us?  As individuals? As a church?

    From Bordeom to Boldness

Peter and John are brought before the same Jewish Council that condemned Jesus to death.  They are charged with blasphemy and asked to explain by what power  they healed the lame man  at the temple gate. Peter’s response is that  of a man empowered by the Living Christ.  As the Church in touch with Christ, we are to be people of Courage, Compassion, and Conviction!

    An After Pentecost Grammar Lesson

This first sermon of this series called:  “Living Like Jesus:  What It Means to Be The Church”  is a  follow-up  of the sermon  preached on May 10th,   focusing  again on having  faith  IN THE NAME  of Jesus.  There is power and life, forgiveness and hope  in that name.  Real faith is not believing  ABOUT Jesus but  believing  IN  Jesus….in His Name!

    Altogether Together

Can you be a Christian by yourself?  No.  There is no such thing as  a “Lone Ranger”  Christian. A crucial part of what it means to ‘believe in Jesus” is to commit one’s life to being  altogether together,  to being part of the “community”  of faith.
