Coronavirus Update From Somerset FUMC

To my church family,
In light of concerns related to the spread of the Coronavirus, following a recommendation by Bishop Leonard Fairley, we have decided to cancel all on-site services. These changes will be in effect from March 13 to March 27, though they may be renewed if the situation warrants it.
• On Sunday mornings we will be canceling all of our services. We will be streaming our 11:00 am services, we encourage you to join us then at https://www.facebook.com/somersetfumc/. For those who do not have Facebook, we will be posting the services on our YouTube page which can be accessed at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeGx1GtJvn0iZKL5SCBu0ag
• On Wednesday evenings, we will continue to provide food for all who want it, but we will only be offering to-go meals without a time of fellowship or table meals. We will continue to need volunteers for cooking and packaging but will not need servers. We are currently working on a plan to stream our Lenten Worship Service.
In addition, we strongly encourage anyone who falls into populations vulnerable to the Coronavirus to STAY HOME. This includes
• anyone over 60
• anyone with diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, kidney failure or other chronic major medical condition
• anyone displaying flu-like symptoms
• anyone who has traveled out of the country or on a cruise in the last 2 weeks
However, we also encourage anyone opting to stay at home to live-stream our service on Facebook at 11:00. You can also request a DVD copy of the service or a written copy of the sermon from the church office.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we seek to be faithful to both the needs of our community as well as our church’s mission. We ask that, especially during this confusing time, you would continue to support the mission of our church through
• your prayers (always)
• your presence (in person or online)
• your gifts (in person, online, or mailed to the church office)
• your service (in ways that keep you safe and healthy)
• your witness (because God is at work even in the midst of a health crisis)
Know that I am praying for you all, and I trust that our God is with us whatever we may face in the coming weeks. I’ll leave you with Paul’s closing words to the Christians at Ephesus:
“Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
In Christ’s love,
– Pastor Chris
P.S. James’ words are also worth quoting in this time. “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. CLEANSE YOUR HANDS, you sinners, and purify your hearts.” (James 4:8)
